Panathinaikos are virtually guaranteed their first league championship in six years after thrashing Atromitos 3-0 away from home as both Olympiakos and PAOK failed to win on Sunday.

A goal from Dimitris Salpigidis in the first-half, a Djibril Cisse penalty and a Sebastian Leto finish in the second-half were enough to see off mid-table Atromitos who finished the game with 10 men after Marcelo Oliveiras was sent off with less than 20 minutes remaining.

The win moves Panathinaikos onto 64 points after 28 games – six ahead of Olympiakos who were held to 0-0 draw at home to Xanthi.

The Reds now have to won their remaining two games and hope that PAO lose both of theirs to be able to retain their title.

PAOK are out of the hunt after losing their third successive game, 2-1 at Larissa. Daniel Cousin opened the scoring for the home side in the 17th minute but PAOK equalized through Pablo Contreras on 83 minutes.

But there was a sting in the tail for Fernando Santos’ men as Larissa grabbed a winner in the third minute of injury time through Sander Puri.

The result leaves PAOK on 56 points and only with faint hopes of pipping Olympiakos to second place ahead of the Champions League play-offs. However, the win helps Larissa move onto 34 points – five clear of the relegation zone.

AEK also needed a goal in the third minute of injury time from Nacho Scocco to salvage a home draw against Panionios. Fanouris Goundoulakis had given the visitors the lead in the 41st minute.

AEK remain in fourth on 49 points, three ahead of Aris who beat Levadiakos 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Darcy Neto. The visitors remain just one point above the relegation zone.

Asteras Tripolis took a big step towards salvation with a 3-1 win at home against bottom side Panthrakikos that lifts them four points clear of the bottom three.

PAS Yiannina dropped a place to second from bottom after being beaten 2-0 at Iraklis who continued their good run under Jozef Bubenko. Victoras Iacob grabbed the opener in the first-half and Stelios Iliadis scored the second towards the end of the game, which both sides ended with 10 men.

The win moves Iraklis towards the top half of the table with 37 points and banishes fears of relegation that had haunted the club before Bubenko’s arrival.

Ergotelis also neared safety on 33 points with an impressive 3-1 win at Kavala
