Minas Hadzisavvas was being treated at the capital’s Evangelismos Hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage last week and was in a coma when he was pronounced dead on Monday evening.
The Athens-born actor began his career on the stage in 1965 and later became one of the founders of the Eelfthero (Free) Theater. He worked with almost all of Greece’s most prominent directors and appeared in several productions at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus.
He was also a popular cinema actor, receiving awards for his performances at the Thessaloniki International Film festival, as well as having a lengthy TV career, most notably as the lead detective in the hit crime show “Anatomy of a Crime” (Anatomia enos Englimatos).
His funeral will take place on Wednesday at noon at Athens’s First Cemetery.
