Learning is more than facts and figures. Alphington Grammar School assists students in learning the fundamentals of a strong education – showing them how to apply that learning to experiences which give them the skills and abilities to thrive in the world beyond school.

Principal Dr Vivianne Nikou explains that “the complexity of modern society and recent world events means that it’s more important than ever for schools to facilitate learning that engages not only the head, but also the heart of each student”.

The world ahead for our children is vastly different from the world we navigate each day as parents and teachers. It is impossible to provide them with the exact proficiencies required for the world they will encounter. However, along with the necessary academic competencies, the school is committed to providing them with the skills of life-long learning, resilience and habits of mind that will prepare them for the myriad of opportunities that will come their way.

“At the heart of everything we do, it is the engaging relationships that develop within our community that make a real difference. As a small school, we pride ourselves on knowing and understanding our students, their individual needs and their families. We believe that our role as educators is to provide them with meaningful learning opportunities – so that we can inspire them to want to challenge themselves further and be the best they can be,” said Dr Nikou.

Whether it be building a life-size igloo from milk bottles in pre-prep or visiting China, Turkey and Greece on the Gateways Program in Year 9 and 10, our staff are committed to creating experiences that enhance the learning in the classroom, and enable students to build on their skills and abilities in a meaningful way.

Each student is an individual with a developing sense of self, and seeking to be engaged in their learning journey. The extended opportunities the school offers, across a range of disciplines, will enable them to find experiences that challenge and excite them.

To see how Alphington Grammar School puts all of this into action, visit them on the School Open Day on Saturday 19 March from 9.00 am.
