On Saturday, in sunny conditions the Spartans jumped out of the blocks, were never headed and won a great game by 17 points at Kevin Bartlett Reserve in Richmond.

The match was like a mini final as the Spartans had lost at this ground in the last 2 years so the win was important.

With a final score of 8.17.65 the Spartans prevailed to Richmond Central 6.12.48.

The Spartans had 5 goalkickers, 25 scoring shots and achieved most KPI’s.

Goal-kickers were Nick Criticos 2, Con Pana 2,Blake Proebstl 2, Dean Bubunaras 1 and John Farah 1.

Best Players were Dean Bubunaras, Con Pana, Julian Handford, Nick Criticos, James Maddock and Blake Proebstl.

The Spartans are now 6 wins and one loss, second on the ladder and 3 games clear of third.

A big part of the make up of the Spartans is the Umpire supplied at home games in Jim Scantsonihas.

“Every club in VAFA needs to supply its own home umpire and since 2011 when the Spartans commenced,” George Demetriou tells Neos Kosmos.
“Jim has been the club umpire and does an outstanding job, providing valuable experience in the 6 years he has undertaken this role.”

Jim Scantsonihas is the General Manager of Operations at Fronditha Care overseeing the five residential care facilities located in all of the metropolitan Melbourne regions and one facility in Newcastle NSW. Jim commenced his work at Fronditha Care in 1991 and he has worked in aged care for over 20 years. His experience in the field spans across residential aged care and community services. He has worked in the public sector and not for profit sector. His qualifications include: Diploma of Applied Science in Nursing and Post Graduate Diploma in Gerontic Nursing.

The Spartans have a great relationship with Fronditha Care, are proud supporters donating to them as a charity and also its Leadership Group have visited its facilities, meeting residents and staff.

The close relationship started when George Demetriou, General Manager of the Spartans was a former President of Fronditha Care, Treasurer and Board Member over a period of 30 years.
