Gerry Lionatos and Chris Tsaousidis and their The Kingfisher Blue store in Wheelers Hill, Victoria has reeled in the title of ‘Australia’s Best Fish ‘n’ Chip Shop’ for 2010.

Their shop took out the national award ahead of hundreds of stores in this year’s Crisco Australia’s Best Fish ‘n’ Chip Shop Competition.

The Greek-owned shop wedged out its closest competition by just 29 votes.

Owner Gerry Lionatos said he was still in shock after being told his store had won, but felt The Kingfisher Blue deserved the title.

“I’m very surprised to have won and very honoured,” he said.

“There are so many great fish ‘n’ chip shops around Australia who were involved in this competition, so the win is a testament to our wonderful, loyal customers here in Wheelers Hill who got behind us and cast their votes.

Opened in 2008 The Kingfisher Blue has made a name for itself with its trademark battered flake and chips and Gerry said it was a passion for great product and service which had helped make it the best in the country.

“We take a lot of pride in what we do and only use the freshest locally caught fish and seafood, locally grown Sebago potatoes for chips and quality oil for frying.

“Our biggest seller is fresh battered gummy shark flake, but local fish varieties like blue grenadier, King George whiting and sea perch are all popular as well.

On top of the prestigious title of ‘Australia’s Best Fish ‘n’ Chip Shop’ Gerry and Chris also win a luxury holiday for two to Fiji.

The Kingfisher Blue is situated at shop 39, 190 Jells Road, Wheelers Hill Shopping Centre, Wheelers Hill, VIC 3150.
