A bomb blast has occurred at the offices of Greece’s public order ministry in Athens. One person was killed when the bomb exploded close to a minister’s office suite.

The bomb had been hidden in a parcel, which made its way to the office of an aide, which was only a few steps away from minister Michalis Chryssohoidis, who was left unhurt.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The victim was later identified as Giorgos Vassilakis, a 50-year-old father of two.

Mr Chryssohoidis praised said Mr Vassilakis as a “valuable and beloved colleague.” The minister said that the parcel had been meant for him
