David McCandless of the Information is Beautiful website has compiled a list of things each country is “best at” based on official information released by the CIA, the UN, New York Times, Reuters, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Bloomberg, Quartz, BBC, UNDP, TravMed, MMTA, Telegraph and many more sources.

McCandless then compiled the data into a map.

According to this map, Greece is number one in the world for eating cheese, while Australia tops the global ranking of cyber security attacks.

Canada is number one in personal freedom according to the annual prosperity index produced by the Legatum Institute, and at the same time America sits at the helm of countries sending spam mail.

Meanwhile, even though one would think New Zealand would be the best in per-capita production of its native kiwi fruit, Italy went for the win and lost pizza consumption to Norway. However, our neighbouring New Zealand is proudly the number one country for Chinook salmon, and is the only country to successfully import and raise these fish outside the Pacific Northwest.

Some rankings did not come as a surprise; for instance, Iran topped caviar production with the best beluga sturgeon from the Caspian Sea.

But surprisingly China was not first in rice production, but Thailand, while China had the largest number of jailed journalists.

Georgia comes first in homophobia while Afghanistan is number one in opium production and Peru in cocaine.
