Greece has been named among the world’s top 20 most romantic destinations for 2017 in this year’s Brides Honeymoon Awards.

Each year, Brides magazine partners with luxury travel advisers Virtuoso who have a global network of more than 15,000 luxury-travel specialists, to discover the best luxury and most-sought after destinations and properties across the globe ideal for a honeymoon or romantic getaway.

Among them were the most romantic cities and top resorts in Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific, with Greece ranked fifth.

“Santorini, Mykonos, Hydra, Ios, Crete, Patmos – each of the Greek islands offers something unique. But what they have in common is what makes them honeymoon-worthy: dramatic volcanic landscapes, centuries-old ruins, simple flavourful cuisine, glamorous hotels, stunning beaches, and a refined yet laid-back attitude. Whether you choose to plop yourself on one island or create a multi-stop itinerary, each moment will seem to out-do the next,” summed up Greece for the Virtuoso advisers.

Meanwhile, French Polynesia took out the top spot followed by Italy, the Hawaiian Islands and the Maldives. While Bali, Mexico, Thailand, Fiji and South Africa made up the top 10.
