The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) has allocated a total of $800,000 in funding to eight Greek community groups across Victoria in a bid to boost engagement with the wider community.

Among them was the Hellenic Museum whose CEO John Tatoulis announced that the funds will be used to improve the site’s accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities.

A portion of the funds will be allocated to the development of new gallery and event spaces as well as new public amenities.

“I am delighted that the state government has provided these funds as they will allow us to better deliver new programs, exhibitions, and other services to the broader community,” said Mr Tatoulis, who added that while they are extremely lucky to be house in the heritage listed former Royal Mint, there are drawbacks when it comes to infrastructure.

“Its public amenities infrastructure is currently totally inadequate for the Museum’s visitor numbers,” he said.

“The State Government’s infrastructure grant will help us become even more relevant and accessible to the community we serve.”
