Greek coastlines are once again adorned with the Foundation for Environmental Education’s (FEE) Blue Flags, which indicate the beaches with the highest environmental quality and swimmer safety standards.

This year 486 beaches and 12 marinas received the much-coveted blue flag, ranking Greece second (after Spain) among the 47 countries participating in the international initiative, accounting for 25 per cent of the newly awarded beaches.

Most of the Greek Blue Flag beaches are in the Halkidiki area – 71 of them – one of the most popular summer holiday destinations in Northern Greece.
