Last week Air China launched a new nonstop route between Beijing and Athens.

The service will operate twice a week using Airbus 330-200 aircraft, reducing the journey time between Beijing and Athens to 10 and a half hours.

The inaugural flight of 200 passengers landed at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport last weekend. A celebratory event to mark the new service was attended by Greece’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Spirtzis, and the People’s Republic of China Ambassador Zou Xiaoli. In their speeches each emphasised the importance of the two countries’ direct connection for tourism, trade and culture.

The new service will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The launch of regular non-stop flights between the two countries’ capitals is expected to contribute significantly towards the increase of Chinese tourists to Greece.
