St Nicholas Greek Orthodox language school in Yarraville is hosting its inaugural open day to share the school’s rich history with the wider community.
Taking place on Saturday 11 November, the school will host a mini-festival with traditional Greek dancing, a sausage sizzle and delicious lokoumades on offer, while parents and students acquaint themselves with the school’s program.
“The importance of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox church and its Greek language school cannot be under-estimated, having helped many Greek Australians preserve their Greek cultural identity over the years,” said the school’s spokesperson, Father Alexandros.
“We are proud to say we have 148 children enrolled with our school program, from prep classes to VCE and we welcome new enrolments for 2018.”
The school has been formally recognised by the Victoria Department of Education for over 20 years, and has an accredited VCE program.
Aside from its language program, the church also hosts a weekly youth group and cooks free meals for the elderly on Thursdays.
The open day will take place at 5-9 Murray St, Yarraville, VIC on Saturday 11 November from 11.00 am – 2.00 pm.
