Atromitos became the first team to clinch their promotion to the Super League from B’ Ethniki thanks to their 1-0 away win over Diagoras in Rhodes.

Atromitos from Peristeri achieved its swift return to the top flight with five rounds of games left to play, after opening a 16-point gap with Kerkyra in fourth.

This bodes well for the side which until now seemed to have been underperforming.

PAS Yiannina, on the other hand, went down 2-1 at Kalamata and dropped three points from the top, while third-placed Kavala drew 1-1 at Kallithea.

Kerkyra defeated fellow promotion rivals Ionikos 2-0 at home, and are the only credible challengers to Kavala for the third spot, albeit still seven points behind the Macedonian side.

Ilisiakos scored a precious home win over Ethnikos (3-2) to move out of the relegation zone and send Kallithea in it.

Standings (after 29 games): Atromitos 64, PAS Yiannina 61, Kavala 55, Kerkyra 48, Ionikos 45, Pierikos 42, Olympiakos V. 39, Diagoras 38, Kalamata 36, Ethnikos 35, Agrotikos Asteras 35, Veria 35, Apollon K. 32, Ilisiakos 31, Kallithea 30, Anagennisi Karditsas 28, Kastoria 14.

The top three teams are promoted to the Super League and the last three are relegated to the third division. The future seems to be an exciting one for Atromitos.
