It’s the inevitable, and happens with every change of season.

I’m a fake tan junkie and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

We’ve arrived at that time of year when women everywhere gaze forlornly at wardrobes bursting with clothes and solemnly declare, “I have nothing to wear!”

Now, I’m not a massive fan of creating lists and telling people about things that they ‘simply can’t live without’, but the arrival of warmer weather has made me take stock of my own wardrobe and I’ve noticed there are things missing.

What I mean is there are a few bits and pieces, when integrated with all the stuff currently in my wardrobe, will help transform my clothes into looks that are reasonably current and make me feel fabulous. I hope.

Or, perhaps it’s all just an elaborate justification for the fact there’s a bunch of new stuff I want and the thought of wearing all the same stuff leaves me feeling incredibly un-enthused.
Whatever the case, there are some major trends this season.

First up, it’s all about being feminine thanks to Mad Men-mania; think 50s glamour, full skirts, cleavage, big floral prints and bright accessories.
Pastel and sorbet shades of pink, peach, lemon, nude and tan are also big this summer – look for them in anything from accessories, sunglasses, blouses and pants.

Lace is also making a big comeback on everything from shorts to accessories and is a really easy way to inject something new into your look.

Anyway, these are the top five things I’m planning to purchase this Spring/Summer…

Jumpsuit

They’re popping up everywhere at the moment and they come in all sorts of fabulousness. From short to long, linen to silk, could there be an easier outfit to wear?

It’s comfy and sexy at the same time and you can take it from day to evening with a simple change of shoes.

I invested in a strapless black silk jumpsuit last year and it was brilliant – I got so much wear out of it. This year, I’m looking for something in a more interesting shade – grey or charcoal perhaps?

Shady lady

I’m going to buy a few more pairs of sunglasses because I’ve decided that’s the only way to get through life. I will have a couple of pairs in my handbag, a pair in the car and a handful at home. That way I can match them to my moods and my outfits.

Tanning

My quest for the perfect fake tan continues this summer (as it has all year long). Every time I think I’ve tried everything on the market, another product is released and I’m drawn to it like a moth to a flame. I’m a fake tan junkie and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Even when I think I’ve found the perfect product, I still try others in case they’re better. I know, I’ve got problems.

Nude up

As I said before, pastel and sorbet shades are big this season – I’m thinking about a few flowy tops in peach and lemon and maybe a pink skirt. But do you know why I’m so excited about this particular trend? Because lighter colours make my tan look better. Yes, I’m that crazy I buy clothes that make me look browner.

Solid heel

I’m going to buy a pair of Gorman clogs. How can I not? I have an incredible weakness for wooden heels and these shoes come in such a delicious variety of colours that I kind of want two pairs.
