Alexandros Margaritis was born in Bonn, Germany and has dual nationality as a result of his place of birth and Greek parentage.

He is a 26 year-old racing driver who is best known for competing in the German-based Deutsche Tourenwagen Master touring car championship.

Margaritis had his first karting experience at the age of 12, and in 1997 competed in the ICA Junior class, in which he finished the championship season as runner-up.

He spent the next two seasons competing in the International Junior class in Germany, finishing 4th overall in 1999.

In 2000, Margaritis made his single seater formula debut in the Formula BMW ADAC championship. In 2001, he finished on the podium three times and scored one pole position on the way to finishing 6th in the championship standings.

Next was one season with German Formula Renault, in which he finished in overall seventh. Margaritis then made his move to Formula Three.

In the first season of the inaugural Formula Three Euroseries, Alex achieved two pole positions and one podium finish, however he did well enough to secure a second year contract in 2004.

When an opportunity arose in 2005 with Mucke Motorsport to compete in one of Europe’s high-profile touring car championships, Margaritis moved from formula racing to touring cars again.

Driving a 2004 spec. AMG Mercedes C Klasse, Margaritis did not score any points in his first season.

He then moved to Persson Motorsport in 2006 as the third driver alongside Matthias Lauda and former Formula 1 driver, Jean Alesi.

He finished eleventh in the standings and achieved his best finish of fifth position in the season’s opening race.

Persson retained his services in 2007 where he finished fourth twice and tenth place overall in the championship with 16 points.

In 2008, he left DTM for the FIA GT1 Championship production sportscars. This year Alex Margaritis has partnered drivers in the Maserati C12 and the Corvette 06 teams.

Last Sunday he ran third in the Phoenix Racing/Carsport ‘Callaway’ Corvette for a podium finish at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil.
