Olympiakos have gone back level on points with Panathinaikos after a 1-0 win over Kavala that also led to PAOK moving into third place after beating Larissa in the first game in their new stadium.

The Reds got their first win over Kavala in 11 years after David Fuster scored a 41st minute penalty.

Olympiakos shaded the game against third-placed Kavala and are now on 30 points with the Greens after 13 games.

It was a significant win for Ernesto Valverde as both Panathinaikos and AEK had failed to win at Kavala this season.

However, the defeat for the side from northern Greece meant that they slid down the table to sixth place.

PAOK took third place with a 2-1 win at the AEL Arena in the first game to be played there. Pablo Contreras scored the stadium’s maiden goal in the 12th minute.

Daniel Cousin equalised for the home side on 18 minutes with a lovely curling shot. But Stefanos Athanasiadis won the game for the visitors in the 73rd minute when he finished off a good move.

The defeat leaves Larissa two points adrift at the bottom of the table with 11 points.

PAOK are joined on 20 points by AEK who almost came away from Atromitos with all three points but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Ismael Blanco had given the visitors, who played with 10 men from the 41st minute after Papa Bouba Diop was shown a red card for a strong tackle, the lead in the 86th minute after racing away and beating both Atromitos’s defenders and goalkeeper to slot the ball into the net.

But Giorgos Donis’s men were not done and Ilias Anastasakos equalised with a minute left when he was left unmarked to tap in a cross from close range.

If proof were needed that the Super League is really hotting up then Aris provided it as they moved into fifth place, just a point behind rivals PAOK and AEK, by beating Asteras Tripolis 1-0 at home.

Darcy Neto scored the only goal with a superb free-kick on 56 minutes.

Xanthi continued their revival, notching up their third win on the trot with a 1-0 win over Olympiakos Volou.

Leite Marcelinho scored with a powerful shot in the 58th minute. The visitors had Nikos Psychogios sent of in injury time.

Xanthi are now in seventh place on 17 points.
