In an online petition Effie Mourginos is calling on the Federal government to prioritise finances for the relief efforts for Queensland’s flood ravaged regions.

“We respectfully seek that the Federal government put a temporary halt to providing overseas financial assistance to other countries at this point in time, by re-directing those funds into Queensland as a matter of urgency to assist the rescue efforts as determined by the consortium,” the petition states.

Petitioners are calling on the Federal government to speed up and streamline the rebuilding process of basic infrastructure in the affected regions, but also to act swiftly in forming a taxpayer/flood victim/private enterprise consortium with the corporate insurers to ensure all claims are addressed equally.

Petitioners also expect that people on low incomes, who have inadequately insured their devastated homes, are given immediate re-housing attention.
