Panionios put an end to Olympiakos’s winning streak by drawing 1-1 with the runaway leader of soccer’s Super League on February 27, but the Reds have maintained their 10-point lead over Panathinaikos at the top.

Olympiakos was more dangerous early in the game and nearly scored in the 14th minute when Mirallas exchanged passes with David Fuster outside the Panionios area but his powerful shot was saved by Jurgen Macho.

The visitors hit the front two minutes before the break. Albert Riera went down the left flank unchallenged and passed the ball inside the area to Mirallas who, alone with Macho, scored his 11th goal of the season, behind only Djibril Cisse’s 18 in the league.

In the 58th, Macho kept his team in the game when he blocked Riera’s powerful free kick.

Ten minutes later, Panionios equalized unexpectedly. David Kvirkvelia made a deep cross from the left, and Olympiakos defender Avraam Papadopoulos rose to clear but headed the ball backwards.

Francois Modesto tried to correct his teammate’s mistake, but his shot found Sverkos’ head and the ball lobbed over a stunned Urko Pardo and into the net.

Five minutes later, Panionios’ Yiannis Kondoes made a line clearance to a header by Dudu and the visitors complained that the ball had crossed the line.

Kondoes and Riera exchanged words, Kondoes bumped into Riera and the Olympiakos midfielder run and kicked him from behind, earning a red card.

AEK appeared comfortable when they moved into a two-goal lead with goals from Ismael Blanco and Nathan Burns, but Sergio Leal’s penalty on the hour, the concession of which earned Kostas Manolas a second yellow card, cut their lead to a single goal.

Nikos Georgeas made it 3-1 in the last minute, rendering Machalis Fragoulakis’ injury-time strike largely immaterial.

Marius Niculae and Leonel Rios earned Kavala a 2-0 win at PAOK Salonika, a result which keeps them just two points behind AEK in fourth place.

Larissa and Aris Salonika shared a dramatic 2-2 draw in the day’s other game.

Daniel Cousin’s opener for the hosts was cancelled out by Danilo Pereira and Raul Marcelo Bobadilla’s last-minute goal appeared to have earned Aris victory, only for Romeu to level in stoppage time.

AEK returned to winning with a 3-2 victory at Ergotelis.
