It seems that men can concentrate on two things at once – as long as one of those is the world wide web.

According to the Nielsen Australian Online Consumer Report, 60 per cent of respondents “two screened” – used the internet and watched television at the same time. A third of those surveyed said they did this once a day and 85 per cent said they did so once a week.

With Smart Phones expected to rise to 50 per cent in usage, it is going to become common place to watch that latest DVD and check your facebook at the same time. 77 per cent of people surveyed said they used more than one type of media simultaneously, some were online with the radio on, some preferred to watch television with the radio on.

One thing is for certain, media multi-tasking is becoming a thing of the future. At the same time, traditional forms of media – such as magazines, newspapers, radio and television – have also increased.

Men spend more time online than women, averaging 23 hours a week while women spend an average of 20 hours per week. One can only assume that men have more time on their hands as the women are too busy… multitasking.
