Australian Will Power started on pole position and overcame the wet weather and an ailing car to win the IndyCar Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil for the second successive year on Monday (Sao Paulo local time).

The race originally scheduled for the 4.18km Anhembi street circuit on Sunday was red flagged on lap 14 and postponed to the next day because torrential rain was leading to repeated crashes and made the course unsafe for racing.

The second attempt to start the race on Monday was a much better affair because of the dry track, but it wasn’t to last as rain began again shortly after the start. Power drove his Penske to victory after Japan’s Takuma Sato had to make a late pit stop for fuel while leading.

The race ended at the two-hour limit after just 55 of the scheduled 75 laps completed Power finished 4.672 seconds ahead of Graham Rahal in the Chip Ganassi entry to claim his second victory in four races, while fellow Australian Ryan Briscoe came in third. Only weeks away from the legendary Indianapolis 500 on May 29, Power leads the Championship with 168 points, from Scotland’s Dario Franchitti, last year’s series champion on 154.
