On Wednesday 1 June, 15 Greek artists will be exhibiting their work at the Steps Gallery in Carlton.
“Most of the pieces being shown are by local artists based in Melbourne, but one is from Mildura and another lives in Cyprus,” the convener of the Fine Arts section of this event, Frixos Ioannidis told Neos Kosmos.
The event will be opened by Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Ms Eleni Lianidou at 6.30pm. The works are in a number of media. “There are some paintings, photos, digital art, sculpture, 3D objects, wood carvings and I believe there is a work made in stone,” Ioannidis explained. Like the style of work being exhibited, prices for different pieces also vary in range.
“The artist are setting the prices, so I’m not sure of the exact prices. But I do know some are going for around $500, while the others may go for around $100,” Ioannidis said. On the opening night there will be a performance by Christiana Alonefti who will sing old favourites by the Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis, with Michael Mazziota on piano. As part of the exhibition, a poetry reading night will be held on Saturday, June 4, at 6.30pm. Guest poets will be Komninos Zervos and Koraly Dimitriadis. Then there will be an open mic for other poets who wish to participate.
