Greek political magazine Epikaira has unveiled a report on the Greek secret service that claims a conspiracy against then Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis was under way in 2008.

The magazine writes that the assassination plot was named “Pythia 1” and was the brainchild of an allied country. The magazine claims that the assassination was to be carried out by a team of at least 20 agents the allied country’s secret service has in Greece and was connected to Karamanlis’s pro-Russian policies which the Americans and other allies did not like.

The plot was allegedly uncovered by the Russian Secret Service during a hacking attempt on the telephone communication between the Greek and the Russian PMs and was subsequently intercepted. According to the article, the Russian spies came face to face with a group of conspirators following the Karamanlis’s motorcade.
