Spiro Alatsas has been named deputy chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, as announced by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Nicholas Kotsiras. It is a four year term.

Alatsas has a life-time of experience in multicultural affairs through his media work including 3XY Greek radio, Ta Nea newspaper and TV Hellas, broadcast by Channel 31. In addition to the deputy chair position, Altatsas will serve on the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) – as part of the new Multicultural Victoria Act 2011 coming into operation on 1 September.

This will enable the VMC to have a chairperson, a youth commissioner, a representative of a community organisation and eight other members. The 12 appointments were made following a selection process conducted by a panel who considered over 200 expressions of interest.

“The new appointees, together with two re-appointees will collectively serve multicultural Victoria very well; with expertise in areas such as community service, legal, health, management, finance, education, aged care, youth affairs, media, science and public service,” Kotsiras said.
