The Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria (MGTAV) will be holding their annual conference for all teachers of Modern Greek in Victoria, to be held on Thursday 8 September.

Nikos Zarkadas, liaison officer, MGTAV, told Neos Kosmos this conference not only gives teachers a chance to learn new skills, but to also network with other educators of Modern Greek and swap tips.

“It’s a way of getting teachers of Modern Greek to become aware of new methodologies, to become aware of the national curriculum and what is coming out and to participate in various workshops to look at different areas of teaching,” said Zarkadas of the conference.

“It’s main purpose is to inform the teachers of what’s happening, where we are going and also to look at new materials that are out in the market and produced by various universities.”

Workshop at the conference include: update on the Australian curriculum and general capabilities; engaging boys in language learning; classroom activities; drama and games workshops; behaviour management; new methods and resources to teach song and theatrical plays to students learning Greek, computer games; and many more.
