Philhellene, in conjunction with Gourmet Traveller, will be hosting this month’s Reader Dinner with a trip down authentic home-style Cretan delicacies.

Co-owner John Rerakis is not only passionate about his culture but also about his traditional food. That’s why his own mother Katina and his co-owner’s mother Helen Gerassimou are in charge of the old school dishes in the kitchen.

The menu for the night includes classic dishes such as: fava; kalitsounia; sheftalies; slow roasted kid goat with Cretan pilafi; village salad with Cretan barley rusks; and patouda for dessert.

Alongside the traditional fare will be some modern twists on classic dishes such as: kataifi prawns; cauliflower and pomegranate salad and mastiha pistachio ice-cream and halva ice-cream. All dishes will be matched with wines from Lyrarakis winery in Heraklion Crete.

Philhellene Provincial Greek Cuisine will be hosting the dinner on Monday 24 October at 7.00 pm. Tickets cost $100 and include matched wines by the glass and a $10 donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. For bookings, call (03) 9370 3303.
