In a move that has shocked Greeks and the leaders of the EU, Greece’s Prime Minister George Papandreou plans to put greece’s bailout plan to a referendum. He is asking Greeks to decide whether or not they want to stay in the eurozone or go back to the drachma.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have warned Athens that they may not be receiving any more financial help from the country until they resolve this issue.

Papandreou is confident his people will vote for the eurozone telling reporters that the “Greek people are proud to be part of the eurozone”.

“Being part of the eurozone means having many righs and obligations … I do believe there is a wide consensus among the Greek people and that’s why I want the Greek people to speak,” said Papandreou.
