Gangland assassin Evangelos Goussis will stay in prison for at least 27 years after he lost his final appeal for killing underworld crime patriarch Lewis Moran and gangland figure Lewis Caine.

44-year-old Goussis gunned down Moran at the Brunswick Club in March 2004, following a hit ordered by Carl Williams, at the height of the Melbourne crime wars. Goussis was sentenced to life in prison to serve a minimum of 30 years.

He will be eligible for parole in 2039.
