Founded in 2004 by the Cancer Council, Girls Night In is fun night in for the ladies aimed at raising money and awareness for all women’s cancers. The funds raised go towards Cancer Council’s groundbreaking research, prevention and support strategies for all women’s cancers. Paula Kalamaras is organising her first Girls Night In and tells Neos Kosmos she’s excited about it all.

“I was watching TV one night and a commercial about it came on so I decided I wanted to host one, but I wanted to do it big? How many Greeks do you know that like to do things small anyway?” she asks

Paula said her driving force is because there isn’t anyone that hasn’t been touched or affected by cancer – whether it be a family member, a relative or an acquaintance.

More than 45,000 women are a diagnosed with cancer each year in Australia.

“Cancer is a very serious disease so I thought I’d do my part to raise a bit of money to help the Cancer Council,” says Paula.

Paula says she is “dedicating this event to all those women who are currently battling this disease, who have fought it and who have sadly lost their battle”.

“Every dollar makes a difference, every conversation make a difference, and I want to do everything I can to support this cause to build a better and brighter today and future for my children. We all say we want a cure but it wont happen unless we do something about it,” she says emphatically.

Through Girls Night In, Paula aims to raise money for the Cancer Council and also raise awareness for women to self detect, get themselves checked by a doctor and participate in recommended screening programs.

“One of the best defences women have against cancer is themselves,” says Paula.
