The Pan-Australian Justice for Cyrpus Coordinating Committee (PASEKA) held their one-day national conference to discuss the Cyprus issue last week and by all respects, it was a successful conference.

Representatives from Victoria, New South Wales, Brisbane, Northern Territory and Western Australia together with the states’ presidents of S.E.K.A., the president and vice president of PA.S.E.K.A., the president of the Federation of Cyprus Communities of Australia and New Zealand discussed the Cyprus issue with youth from all Australia. Present was also the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus who discussed the latest developments, Ankara’s position with the latest speeches of the Turkish politicians on Cyprus, including the Turkish PM in Parliament on the “TRNC”, the pseudo state.

He informed the conference on the meeting of the leaders with the UN secretary General in New York. The Consul of the Republic presented the conference with the latest developments on the search in the sea sites of Cyprus, the international laws that govern them, explaining with slights and maps the exclusive rights of the Republic of Cyprus.

Mrs Vamvakinou, Member of the Federal Parliament, was very pleased to see so many young people interested in our common concerns, especially Cyprus. She explained how the parliament works, the parliamentary committees and the members’ duties outside the parliament. The youth, satisfied with all the information and knowledge they derived from the conference, expressed the desire and will to stand by PA.S.E.K.A.’s struggle and to join the Coordinating Committees in their states for justice for Cyprus.

On behalf of PA.S.E.K.A. the president extended his thanks to the Cyprus Community of Melbourne and Victoria for making available their buildings for the conference, Mr and Mrs Elisseou, Kate Georgiou and all the ladies for their care, the youth president and the state S.E.K.A. presidents for the coordination with PA.S.E.K.A. for the organisation of the conference, everyone who travelled from all over Australia to attend, especially our youth. He extends his special thanks to the High Commissioner, the Consul, Mrs Vamvakinou, the president of the Federation, the new NSW S.E.K.A. president, for their valuable contribution to the success of the conference and the young Constantinos who is always with us providing technical assistance and the support we need.

Apologies from South Australia who have just elected a new S.E.K.A. committee consisting of young people, we wish them every success.
