Greek Judo champion Julieta Boukouvala is continuing to show fine form ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The 28-year-old clinched the gold medal at the World Grand Prix event in Amsterdam last weekend where four Ippon and a Yuko saw her claim first place in the 57kg category.

The victory gave her an extra 200 points in the world rankings, which keeps her on course for a place at the Olympics next summer.

In qualifying, Boukouvala broke the resistance of Chinese judoka Tongkgiouian Lou, the bronze medallist at the 2009 World Championships, Kifagian Gkasimova from Azerbaijan and disposed of Autumn Pavia of France.

Boukouvala’s victory in the semi-final against Japan’s Megkoumi Ishikawa came easier than expected in a contest which lasted only two minutes, while in the final she defeated the Brazilian Ketleyn Quadros, a formidable bronze medallist at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
