The 2012 V8 Supercars Championship calendar has been unveiled and officials have confirmed a record total of 16 events.

There will be a total of 15 championship events plus the category’s regular non-championship appearance at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park. Among the notable changes to the calendar is the return of the traditional Sandown 500 in September and the move of the YAS V8 400 at Abu Dhabi to November, where the event will be a support to the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix.

The home of the annual pre-Bathurst, 500-kilometre endurance race for the last four years, Phillip Island will now happen in May, while Symmons Plains in Tasmania will also move, from November to late March. The ITM400 Hamilton, on April 20-22, will be the last on the city’s street circuit in New Zealand. A total of 14 of the championship events locations have been confirmed while the weekend after the YAS V8 400 – November 9-11 – has been left as a TBA (to be confirmed).

The championship will commence on Australian soil with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 1-4.
