Melbourne has been ranked the eighth most expensive city in the world, one place behind Sydney in the Worldwide Cost of Living Survey.
Touted as one of the world’s most livable city, research has found it’s almost 50 per cent more expensive to live there than New York.
The strong Aussie dollar was to blame for this rise that has seen a loaf of bread in Melbourne almost double in cost in the past decade with petrol prices going up three times in the last ten years.
Zurich took the crown as the world’s most expensive city, overtaking Tokyo and Geneva third. Other Australian cities made the top 20 with Perth (12th), Brisbane (equal 13th) and Adelaide (equal 17th).
