The East Coburg Cricket Club is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this year and to honour the occasion they are hosting The Big Greek Night.

Over the years, the cricket club has many players and sponsors of Greek backgrounds and decided to showcase their contributions and celebrate their Hellenic connection. President, and one of the founders of the cricket club, George Georgiou, says this is the first event of its kind and promises that it will be a night to remember.

George Donikian, radio and television presenter; Angela Pippos, journalist, television and radio presenter and author; and George Kapiniaris, comedian, will all be the guest speakers on the night with entertainment provided by a live band. There will be lambs on the spit, Greek food and salads for all to enjoy.

“There’s been a lot of Greek players and coaches over the years and with our anniversary year it seemed appropriate,” says Georgiou on why they chose to host this event. Georgiou has been involved in the club since he was 22 and tells Neos Kosmos that it’s well and truly a family affair with his wife running the club canteen and his eldest son playing for the Under 12’s. “It’s a community club that’s won its fair share of premierships,” says Georgiou.

“I’d encourage everyone to give cricket a go, you make a lot of friends, keep fit at the same time, and you develop long-term friendships.”

The Big Greek Night will take place at Brearley Reserve, Heliopolis Street, Pascoe Vale on Tuesday 6 March. Tickets are $30 and children under 12 are free. For more information contact George on 0412 230 684.
