Greece’s trade deficit fell by 29.1 per cent in January, according to provisional figures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (Elstat) on Tuesday.
As domestic consumption continues to fall, the report by Elstat stated that the total value of imports – excluding oil products – in January 2012 amounted to 2.23bn euros, a fall of 15.6 per cent year on year.
In the same month, the total value of exports amounted to 1.2bn euros, a light increase of 1.0 per cent on the January 2011 figure of 1.18bn euros.
This resulted in trade deficit of 1.03bn euros, a drop of 29.1 per cent on January 2011’s figure of 1.46bn euros.
