While Greece is in the midst of getting the economy back on its feet, Andrew Liveris, CEO and Chairman of the Dow Chemical Company, has stepped up to the plate and expressed his interest on investing in Greece and the possibility of being an elected politician in the future.
In an interview with Greek Reporter USA, Liveris stressed the idea that Greece needs solutions beyond austerity.
“I think that the growth program of Greece beyond austerity needs to be a little more crystal clear.”
While he mentioned the need of encouraging private businesses in Greece, and the possibility of having his company invest in Greece, Mr Liveris clarified that his company is not currently interested in purchasing Greek public assets, such as the Greek National Gas Company that has been up for sale.
Previously Mr Liveris had been involved in politics, currently serving as co-chair of President Obama’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. In 2008, there were speculations that he would be a candidate for Secretary of Energy in the US, a position which would have dealt with policies on oil dependency and climate change.
Mr Liveris’ involvement in the company has spanned manufacturing, engineering, sales, marketing, and business and general management. Key roles included general manager for the company’s operations in Thailand, and president of all Asia-Pacific operations. His career at Dow began in 1976 in Australia.
The Greek-Australian now lives in Michigan, USA and told GreekReporter USA that while there was a possibility of a future in politics, he pointed out that he can suggest policy from his current position at Dow Chemical, a company he has been with for over three decades.
