The Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Nicholas Kotsiras presented $5000 grants to three young journalists as part of the Multicultural Media Internship Program. The grants were awarded to interns at Neos Kosmos, Australian Chinese TV and the Serbian Voice Newspaper.
Interns awarded the grants were Ms Sophia Darzanos from Neos Kosmos, Ms Maja Vucevic from Serbian Voice Newspaper and Mr Thomas Zang from the Australian Chinese TV.
The program was established by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) to support multicultural organisations to deliver work experience, profession development training and leadership to aspiring journalists.
Chairperson of the VMC, Chin Tan, described Victoria’s multicultural media outlets as an important asset in providing “a powerful voice for our culturally and linguistically diverse communities”.
“My hope is that the multicultural Media Internship Program will help increase the knowledge of emerging journalists about the operations of multicultural media and develop their skills through hands-on experience in these diverse media organisations,” Mr Tan said.
