Australian musician John Butler has reached what has been called a “satisfactory settlement” with the American agency who made a commercial for Dannon Oikos Greek yoghurt claiming they used his song in the ad without receiving rights to it.
The advert, which aired during the Superbowl a few months back and stars Greek American actor John Stamos, was brought to Butler’s attention by his fans who noticed the music in the ad bared an uncanny resemblance to his 2003 hit song Zebra.
Butler’s management team issued the following statement:
“Australian musician John Butler and USA advertising agency, Poptent, the creators of the Dannon Oikos yoghurt advertisement which initially aired during the 2012 Super Bowl, have come to a satisfactory settlement in relation to the use of a song in the advertisement that bore a strong similarity to his composition “Zebra”. The advertisement will no longer contain this particular piece of music and both parties are happy this issue is behind them.
We thank all JBT fans worldwide for their support on this matter. No further comment will be entered into.”
