A strike by ferry crew members over a pay dispute has come to an end, following news the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) reached an agreement with the coastal shipping operators.

A 24-hour strike took place on Monday, and had entered its second day with plans to continue until 6.00 am on Wednesday, leaving thousands of tourists stranded at ports across the country.

According to reports, the union announced it had accepted a proposal made on behalf of the coastal shipping companies (SEEN), which will see every employee receive a two per cent pay increase.

The new agreement will retroactively come into effect, with employees set to be back paid as of 1 January, 2018.

Meanwhile, the union is pushing for a total five per cent increase inclusive of 2019, with another round of salary negotiations expected to take place at a later date.

Ferry services were expected to resume as per normal soon after the agreement was reached.

PNO represents the majority of the country’s lower to mid ranked crew members.
