South Ward Councillor Steve Stefanopoulos was re-elected as Mayor of Stonnington for a second consecutive term at a Special Council meeting which took place on Thursday 8 November.
“I’m grateful to my fellow Councillors for their faith in me and the opportunity I’ve been presented.
“Over the last 12 months, I’ve met with a range of community organisations in Stonnington who are doing incredible work and I am committed to working and partnering with them to continue to ensure Stonnington remains a place that people want to call home, work in or visit,” Cr Stefanopoulos said.
Cr Stefanopoulos had previously served as East Ward Councillor between 2004 and 2008 before being elected as South Ward Councillor in 2016.
Last year he was elected Mayor by the Stonnington Council representatives taking over from fellow Greek-Australian Jami Klisaris.
A resident of the area for more than 40 years, Cr Stefanopoulos says he is passionate about preserving its heritage and liveability and sees his re-election in office as an opportunity to build on the achievements of his first term as Mayor.
“There are a number of exciting projects underway and starting soon – the transformation of Prahran’s Cato Street car park into an urban parkland is progressing well and the redevelopment of our historic Prahran Town Hall will start next year,” said Cr Stefanopoulos.
“I can’t wait to get back to work.”
Planned undertakings also include new facilities for netball and basketball and upgrade of facilities of sporting groups in the area.
