As the Greek Super League enters its second third, Olympiacos find themselves falling behind in the title chase.

With PAOK already six points ahead of them and Atromitos on second place with a four point margin, the team from Piraeus have their work cut out for them if they want to stay alive in the championship run within the new year.

They will attempt to turn a new leaf at Peristeri, where Damir Canadi’s men will be eagerly anticipating them. After a convincing win away from home against champions AEK, Atromitos are brimming with confidence and will likely play their usual hard-defending, punishing counter attack style.

This could prove quite problematic for Pedro Martins’ side, who have shown more than once during this season that they have difficulties finding goals when necessary and for this very reason it could be the first time in quite a while (if not ever) that Olympiacos is not the favourite to win the three points from such a game.

Meanwhile, Aris will go to Crete for a very interesting game against OFI in a field that has proven difficult for most top-tier teams of the competition. New coach Savvas Pantelidis doesn’t have much time at his disposal to get to know his players, yet he will be pressured to get results for the Thessaloniki team. PAOK will be expected to claim the three points as they welcome Xanthi this weekend, with manager Razvan Lucescu not having skipper Vieirinha available for this game.

The ‘black-and-whites’ will need to keep their minds focused on their domestic obligations, with the great challenge of facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge looming ever closer.

Champions AEK will face a tricky challenge away from home against Panetolikos. Marinos Ouzounidis’ men have proven unsuccessful in their bid to defend their title so far and they will need a winning streak, if they are to make a much-needed comeback, with Panetolikos looking like a perfect start.

Panathinaikos meanwhile, should be fairly comfortable claiming an easy win as they welcome last placed Apollon Smyrnis. This game should prove to be a great opportunity for the young ‘greens’ to continue their successful advance in their Super League and gain some important experiences. It could also provide manager Giorgos Donis with a chance to try out some other tactics for his team, should the margin be wide enough.
