Moonee Valley City Council is calling for feedback on a draft Future Directions: Soccer Plan to provide a strategic framework for the long-term provision of soccer in Moonee Valley.
The plan was drafted following initial consultation with local soccer clubs and associations, schools, community groups and other users of Moonee Valley’s soccer facilities to identify challenges, gaps and opportunities for local soccer.
The draft plan identifies long-term opportunities to increase the number of soccer players in Moonee Valley, especially females, juniors and people from non-English speaking backgrounds, develop the capacity of smaller clubs to grow and be sustainable entities, assist clubs with operational issues and increase the overall number and quality of soccer grounds and facilities by seeking to create multiple pitch sites, including a site for summer soccer.
Residents, local sports clubs and other interested groups can provide their comments and feedback in the following ways: By post to Adrian Wilson, Moonee Valley City Council, PO Box 126, Moonee Ponds, VIC 3039, or by email to Adrian Wilson at awilson@mvcc.vic.gov.au.
Sports and Recreation portfolio holder Cr John Sipek welcomed the development of a long-term plan for soccer in Moonee Valley.
The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday, 17 August. The draft plan will then be revised to take community feedback into account before hopefully being adopted by Council in September 2012.
