A lecture on Ancient Greek Music in the modern world was held in Brisbane last week presented by the Asia Minor Greek Historical Society Inc, in conjunction with the Greek Orthodox Community of St George Cultural Committee. Dr Alfred Vincent, Former Lecturer for Modern Greek Studies at the University of Sydney and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Athens, Thessaloniki and Crete, spoke about how in ancient times, as now, Greece was a land of music. The Greeks sang and played instruments at religious festivals, social gatherings, in the theatre, and to accompany everyday activities. The Kalomana Lecture is held each year in honour of Maria Tsolakas for her selfless devotion to Asia Minor refugees.
