The case of missing toddler Ben Needham dominated the news in the 1990s. Kerry Needham, the mother of the 21-month-old missing toddler who vanished from the yard of his grandparents on the island of Kos, now fears that her missing son may have been hidden in an oil drum after being killed.

In 2016, witnesses came forward after a dying confession was made by Dino Barkas who had stomach cancer. He had allegedly said that it “was possible” that he may have killed the toddler while doing construction work with his digger. He had heard a yelp, that he had thought was a dog, but it could have been the toddler.

A toy car was found at a second dump, however the DNA found that it was not linked to Ben.

Kerry, from Sheffield, told the Mirror newspaper that little Ben may have been in an oil drum. South Yorkshire police had found oil drums near the farmhouse where he was last seen.

“I believe Ben was scooped up by the digger and taken to the second site,” she said. “They found several drums, he could have been kept in one of them.”

“We deserve to know the truth,” she said. “We need justice.”

Kerry has been looking for her child since he disappeared on 24 July 1991. Initial searches failed to locate him and he was believed to have been kidnapped. Despite numerous sightings, his whereabouts remain unknown. In 2012, South Yorkshire Police investigating the disappearance turned their attention to a mound of rubble by an excavator driver working in a field adjoining houses where Ben was last seen playing. Extensive excavation by British and Greek police failed to detect human remains or items belonging to Ben.
