Yiannis Ploutarchos is in Australia for three performances this weekend providing Greek audiences with a treat. The first performance kicks off at the Croatian Club in Sydney on 3 May, followed by the Trak Club in Melbourne on Friday and Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday.
He’ll be performing works from his latest album, titled ‘Tragoudia Akatallila’ (Unsuitable Songs). He has also been recently collaborating with his son, George Kakosaios, who has inherited his father’s talent in song and composition.
Influenced from a young age by the tradition of religious and folk songs of Greece, Ploutarchos rose to Greek stardom in less than two years when his second album reached triple platinum status.
Born in a small village lost in the middle of the agricultural zone of central Greece, he starting singing in churches or the main square at weddings before heading to Athens to work as a hairdresser while singing at a small Athenian music hall at night.
He soon became a household name.
