Collision between two boats resulted in the death of two people and one seriously injured near a popular resort in the southern Peloponnese region, Greek authorities say.
According to the report, a speedboat driven by a 44-year-old man crashed into a small fishing boat off the coast off Argolida on Friday, resulting in the death of two men and the serious injury of a woman.
Three people, who were siblings, were on-board the fishing-boat. The men were aged 60 and 70 respectively and the woman who was seriously injured and transferred to a hospital in Athens is also 60.
Meanwhile, the speedboat was carrying 10 tourists from France, none of whom were injured, Kathimerini reported.
The driver who has been subjected to toxicology examinations appeared voluntarily to the port authority of Porto Heli on Saturday, accompanied by his lawyer.
Shipping and Island Policy Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis expressed his condolences over the death of the brothers on Friday evening, adding that safety in the sea is the government’s first priority following increased accident and speed violation numbers during the summer season.
