A woman from New Zealand, aged 47, missing for days at sea was found by a coast guard patrol boat on Sunday and has been taken to Herakleion, Crete.
The woman had set sail in a small inflatable dinghy with no motor on Friday to buy supplies from Angali Bay on the island of Folegandros but was swept out to sea in strong currents.
A search patrol was dispatched and four coast guard patrol boats and land forces on the islands of Santorini, Ios, Naxos, Folegandros and Milos were joined by three private boats and a navy helicopter in the search for the woman that kicked off at daybreak on Sunday.
She was found by an Herakleion coast guard patrol boat 55 nautical miles northwest of Herakleion and 40 nautical miles southwest of Folegandros.
She was in good condition and able to walk without assistance but was taken to Herakleion’s Venizelion Hospital in an ambulance for a medical assessment and to be given first aid.
