The red-and-whites from Piraeus have left the entire European football community speechless after knocking Arsenal out of the Europa League, beating the 1-2 in extra time in London!

In what was a heavy tactical contest between the two managers, Pedro Martins and Miguel Arteta, the home side struggled to find any space in the well-organised Olympiacos defence who despite the fact that they were trailing after last week’s 0-1 loss in Pireaus, seemed happy to sit back and wait for their chance to strike on the counter.

The first half ended rather unceremoniously, with Arsenal unable to find space up front and Olympiacos not capitalising on their few, but crucial opportunities.
They eventually found a goal by Alexandre Lacazette, in a similar manner to the way they had scored in the first game, but it was ruled out due to Bukayo Saka being offside at the start of the attempt.

Meanwhile, the voices of over 6,000 fanatics echoed throughout the Emirates Stadium, as they pushed their team onward towards victory.

The two teams picked up right where they left off in the second half, with the “gunners” looking a little brighter as they attempted to put the pressure on the Greek defence and create cracks to take advantage of.

But the organisation of Martins’ team was flawless and the duet of Ousseynou Ba and Pape Abou Cisse seemed impenetrable.

And it was from there that the threat for the home side came, when a corner kick on the 53rd minute from set-piece expert Mathieu Valbuena found the head of the unmarked Cisse who had little trouble scoring the opener.

A goal that was celebrated wildly by the supporters of the Greek side who had travelled all the way from their home country, giving them hopes of an incredible upset.

Despite the substitutions made by Arteta, the game didn’t seem to change for his side, with a few of his players appearing disgruntled at the very disciplined Olympiacos defence.

Inevitably, the tie was lead to extra time, with some sore legs making their appearance across the pitch.

And even though Arsenal had only just come from a short winter break, it was Olympiacos who appeared weaker, doing their best to keep the ball out of Sa’s area.

Arteta exhausted his options from the bench when an injured Shkodran Mustafi gave his place to Greek international Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Yet Martins still had a few cards to play. The Olympiacos defence held admirably against wave after wave of attack, yet eventually, they crumbled after a marvellous Mesut Ozil cross found the head of newcomer Gabriel Martinelli, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hammering the ball into the back of the net with a bicycle kick.

With nothing left to lose, Martins ordered all his men to come up front and put the pressure on the Arsenal defence, that appeared unstable all evening long.

Their efforts were awarded with a series of corner kicks. During one of them, the rebound fell to Giorgos Masouras who made the low cross from the right that found Youssef El Arabi inside the box.

And in the dying minutes of the game, the Moroccan gave Olympiacos arguably one the greatest wins in the history of the club!

Arsenal came dangerously close to the equaliser in the last minute but Aubameyang was off target, and the scenes that followed the referee’s final whistle were incredible, with ecstatic fans becoming one with players and the Olympiacos technical staff, in a night that will surely be remembered for ages to come!
