A crisis meeting was held by the Greek government on Sunday to charter a strategy to contain the spread of the virus, and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reached out to the head of the Greek Orthodox Church ahead of Easter celebrations.

The Greek Orthodox hierarchy has refused to stop ecclesiastical gatherings in alignment with other organisations that have postponed events. Furthermore, the Holy Synod decided that Greek Holy Communion which requires parishioners to use the same spoon and chalice will continue to be distributed.
