One of the most devoted fans of South Melbourne Hellas, Mr Peter Athanasakis, passed away last Monday.
Peter was the father of the club’s former chairperson, Leo Athanasakis and spent a lot of his time at the stands watching his favourite team’s games. He was also the grandfather of two of the club’s junior players, Peter and Pamela Athanasakis.
He was one of most well-known personas of the South Melbourne family during the 60’s and the news of his passing spread sadness across all areas of the club.
It was also quite common to see him inside the locker rooms of his team in order to support the players after each game, no matter the result. South Melbourne made a post on their social media profiles in order to express their condolences towards the Athanasakis family late on Monday.
South Melbourne FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the very much loved Peter Athanasakis.
The club extends its deepest condolences to the Athanasakis family and Peter’s friends during this tough time.
