Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) is praising the work culturally diverse women have done in the workforce and in the community.
Celebrating International Women’s day yesterday, ECCV deputy chairperson Marion Lau OAM says there is still a lot more to be done to help ethnically diverse women.
“The needs and issues currently being experienced by migrant and refugee women are complex and diverse,” Ms Lau said.
“The sub-committee consistently advocates for projects and policies that prioritise the safety, health and wellbeing of CALD women in Victoria and increase the opportunities available to them, with advocacy informed by the group’s shared commitment to human rights and gender equality.
The ECCV has advocated for the prevention of violence against women and has championed women’s rights in the ethnic community.
“As part of this advocacy, a delegation met with Minister for Women’s Affairs Mary Wooldridge last year to remind the government to fulfil a commitment to prevent violence against women in CALD communities,” Ms Lau said.
